GENBAKU NO HI

Atomic Bomb Awareness Day –
an initiative of Yuko Gulda

This is an initiative to establish an official Atomic Bomb AWARENESS Day –
GENBAKU NO HI

to be celebrated on August 8th,
in order to commemorate the victims of Hiroshima (August 6th) and Nagasaki (August 9th 1945) and to call for a prohibition of all nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.

Logo designed by Felicia Gulda

Wir leben stets in Atomgefahr und Kriege sind nach wie vor um uns. Dieser Mahnstein steht für eine Welt ohne Waffen und gegen die Atomkraft.
We live in a world where war and nuclear danger can happen anywhere. This milestone is a plea for a world without nuclear weapons or power.
核の恐怖、そして終わることのない戦争に明け暮れる世界 これが正常だという認識にならない事を願って!

THE PHILOSOPHY

To be aware means noticing what goes on around us, and this is what we can and must do if we ever hope to live in a weapon-free world. Neither economic or political means have been able to achieve this.

Perhaps the greatest danger we face these days is becoming more and more indifferent to the wars around us, the abuse of ordinary weaponry, and the threat of nuclear weapons – indeed of nuclear power in general as the Japanese experience has demonstrated.

Every day as we read newspaper with a cup of morning coffee, we read the news which reports about one war or another, mass destruction here and there, school violence, and so it goes on and on.

The temptation is to simply take these horrors for granted, and this is the real danger. We must remain vigilant and aware of the dangers that increasingly encroach on our environment and our communities.
